Update: Only one left — the one you see above!
Pictures don’t even start to do this bike justice. It is simply drop dead gorgeous. The new owners of these will get compliments wherever they go, to be sure. All that chrome!!! Yes, the name is a mouthful: Royal Enfield Bullet Trials Works Replica 500. Try to say that five times fast! If you own one, you’ll have to take some time to memorize it. But it’s totally worth it.
Based off the Bullet 500, this variant is a tribute to the Royal Enfield Trials motorcycles of yesteryear. (For those not familiar with it, Trials is a version of motosport that emphasizes low-speed skill on a dirt course, rather than high-speed racing. The genre has changed, and the modern version of Trials bears little resemblance to what was back in the day.) And this particular bike features the classic touches you would expect: upswept exhaust, semi-knobby tires. single seat, and so on. Younger riders may mistake this for a Scrambler, but that was a totally different motosport genre. Trust me, I was back there as a youth in the early ’70s watching these competitions…it was fun to watch!
Aside from that, it is basically the same as the Classic 500. Suspension is provided by front forks and dual rear shocks; the solo seat is sprung for added comfort. Disc brakes front and rear made by ByBre (a subsidiary of Brembo). 500cc fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine with a 5-speed transmission. It’s not exactly a speed demon, but that’s not the point…especially for a Trials bike.
We ordered four of these, and they just arrived — two in red with a silver tank, and two in khaki green with a chrome/silver fuel tank. Since these outdoor photos were taken, an accessory package including handguards, bash guard and headlamp grill has been installed on each bike, for a total price of $6,099 MSRP (plus freight, prep + TT&L). Needless to say, this bike is unarguably a true bargain. And also needless to say, these bikes will not last. We’ll update this article to let you know how many remain, but I strongly suggest visiting the shop before it’s too late. See you there!
